On 21-22 March 2024, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), together with Forum for Human Rights, Human Rights in Practice, aditus and Free Courts, held a workshop on tackling attacks on judicial independence and the autonomy of the prosecution through disciplinary and criminal proceedings, in Prague.

Hungary: Purported “emergency” must not be used as a pretext for further attacks on the rule of law
The ICJ condemned the declaration of yet another state of emergency on Tuesday 24 May by the government of Hungary, and called on the government to desist from using it as a basis to undertake any measure that would further erode the already dismal state of rule of law in the country.

In a statement to the United Nations Human Rights Council on Hungary, the ICJ today raised concerns about the ongoing degradation of the rule of law, the undermining of the independence of the judiciary and human rights protection, including for migrants.
