ICJ oral statement in the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants

The ICJ drew attention on various issues related migrants and asylum seekers.

During the 20th regular session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva on 18 June to 6 July 2012, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, Mr François Crépeau, presented his latest report to the Council. During the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on 21-22 June 2012, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) made an oral statement welcoming the Rapporteur’s decision to focus on Europe and on EU migration laws.

The ICJ pointed out the issues of the detention of asylum seekers, reception conditions for migrants, the human rights consequences of the apprehension of migrants at borders, the interception of migrants at sea and the “pushback” of boats and migrants and the EU’s intended establishment of a Common European Asylum System.
