During the 20th regular session of the Human Rights Council, the UN Working Group on human rights and transnational corporations presented its first report to the Council. The ICJ commented.
During the interactive dialogue with the Working Group, the ICJ made an oral statement on behalf of the ICJ, ESCR-Net and FIDH. The statement draws attention to four issues concerning the working methods and mandate of the Working Group:
- meaningful participation by people affected by corporate human rights abuse;
- remedies for persons whose enjoyment of rights and freedoms has been affected;
- potential future standards; and
- engagement by the Working Group with other stakeholders.
