During the Human Rights Council’s 20th regular session in Geneva, the ICJ delivered an oral statement concerning the engagement of countries with visits by the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council. The statement, issued during a general debate was held on 28 June concerning human rights mechanisms (Item 5 of the Council’s agenda) and joined by Amnesty International, Canada HIV/AIDS Legal Network, the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) and FoodFirst Information and Action Network (FIAN), calls for respectful engagement with the Special Procedures and urges that it should never be an adequate response to country missions to say that other countries have similar or worse problems.
