The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) is co-operating on an online summer school organised by Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna on the economic, social and cultural rights of migrant children in the European Union, on the 22-24 and 27-30 June 2022.
The Summer School will provide an interdisciplinary approach to the rights of migrant children, and will be taught by experts and practitioners in the field, with the aim of fostering debates and exchanges between the lecturers and participants.
The course will provide training on the international and regional frameworks on the economic, social and cultural rights of migrant children, and will explore current challenges to migrant children’s rights. The lectures will cover a broad range of themes related to migrant children’s rights, including climate change, unequal access to healthcare and education, socio-economic discrimination, the reception and protection of Ukrainian children in the EU, the right to development, the right to culture, and migrant children’s rights in the digital environment.
Training materials from the FAIR and FAIR PLUS projects on fostering access to migrants’ and migrant children’s rights, coordinated by the ICJ, will be used during the course. The lectures will also focus on key issues arising from the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child (2021-2024), from the EU Child Guarantee and from the Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022-2027).
The Summer School will be taught in English, and is aimed at professionals, academics and students wishing to upgrade their knowledge and competences on the topic.
Enrolment in the Summer School is limited to 30 participants. Candidates must submit their application online by the 13th of June 2022, with an early bird discount applying to those who register before the 31st May 2022. For foreign students who are beneficiaries of international protection (refugees and subsidiary protection holders), seven exemptions from enrolment fees are available, granted based on chronological order of registration.
